What I actually learnt in college

THE BEGINNING
I was freshly out of school and was excited like most of the people about the fake idea I had in my mind regarding college life cheers to the movies I watched and imagined these things. One of the main catalyst was the extreme amount of pressure I dealt with 12th board exams which made think “Haapaa finally I’m going to college I don’t have to study hard anymore.” This is what I got wrong. After this imagination let’s get to the part were I finally selected PSGiTech. I’m from salem so I had to stay in hostel and I was more happy about this because I will finally be independent. We had to choose a number from a bowl and fate decides our room mates. Luckily I got two sweet ones. Everything was fine till this.

REALIZATION
I waited for 4 months and nothing happened. I started feeling school was more liberal about the timings. We had classes from 8:45 am to 4:30pm and each lecture was 50mins long. The staffs in charge for next hour were waiting 10mins prior the bell rang. Staffs borrowed physical education class to finish other subject portions. That is when I realized this is also a educational institution and we came here to study.

CULTURAL FESTS
This was not bad but it had a lot of strict rules yet we dint think much about these and the first culturals was fun we danced in the audience and cheered and finally the next day people had to go to principal’s room for inquiry which wasn’t fun. After this I actually got fed up and started going home during fests.

STAFFS
Most of them were judgmental and used to form opinions about students and target them which was pathetic and sad. Some used to judge me for my religion asking me

“Muslims will get married early and they wont let their daughters do jobs or let them study. When are you getting married?” . This actually hurts and its bad if you question someone like this. Early marriages take place in all customs and it purely depends on the family situation. I seriously hope they don’t question any person about this kind of thing and hurt them.

STUDENTS
We actually meet all kinds of people and problem arises when you try to form gangs and try to fit in. I’m actually a person who talks a lot and makes friends easily and college actually taught me “You idiot u can’t make friends until your comfortable on your own”. Trying to fit in made me face a lot of troubles which practically destroyed my peace of mind because I had to prove them it wasn’t my fault until I realized one day I should stop trying so hard. Every person in my class is actually a good individual but trouble arises when you gang up. Others thoughts influence yours.

My brain actually started working in the 5th sem about how to deal with friends. Simple thing is don’t get two involved or attached in a persons life  and never makes decisions about them or for them but be there for them whenever they feel like sharing something with you and advice them only when they ask for it. Never try to fit in a gang. Don’t chase friends and learn to stay comfortable on your own. Because in future when people think of you they shouldn't relate you to a gang and let them remember you for who you are as an individual person.

To sum up we go to college to study and its just an advanced version of school and about friends you will find people who sync with you so just interact and treat everyone well and never feel lonely when your alone and just feel peace because dealing with people needs more energy than being with urself.

Importance of having your own space

This is a taboo topic in India. I stayed with my parents till 12th grade. Then I moved to college for the next 4 years. Even while I was in college I wasn't practically alone because I had room mates and the same thing happened after I joined work as I stayed in working women's hostel. Then covid happened and I got married during covid and moved to his parents place. Our own space there was our room. Then 10 months later we shifted to Bangalore for study and work reasons and it was the first time in my life that I got an entire space to myself. My husband got his own space inside his college (A single room). While I stayed with my parents my job was to just take care of myself, eat and study. When I moved to hostel I had to tackle my laundry as well. Same happened in working women's hostel but extra responsibility was to pay my rent, tackle my finances and travel. Cooking became an extra part of our schedules wherein we make dishes occasionally. Each and every step of this ...

Uncertainity of Life

I’m fond of making plans everyday. Study plans, trip plans, outing plans with friends etc.. Few things happen the way I plan, few don’t. Last plan I made was a big one regarding how to settle down in life and what to do with my career. I made this plan after my plans of becoming a doctor went into drain because of few reasons and in 4 th  sem of clg I decided to prepare for placements. But my crazy brain came up with an idea. I dint go on to become a doctor because there was lot of money involved with the admission process because I got 10 marks less than the expected score so I was pissed of and was not willing to spend lakhs just because of few marks. One more reason is I dint want to spend soo much for UG. My brain decided to invest this money for my higher studies->MS abroad. I started preparing for GRE and TOEFL and cleared those exams. I applied to universities. I opted out of placements because I wanted to concentrate on these things. Everything was cool until something h...

Clothing lessons I learnt💃

Growing up my parents used to buy clothing only 3-4 times a year mainly during festive seasons or sometimes when they needed any piece of clothing. They dint have television nor internet so they as consumers had the freedom to decide and mindfully buy the stuff they need only when they need it unlike our generation. Here we turn our tv on or any social media platform it bombards us with lot of products which dint exist in the previous era and we are tricked into believe that these are essentials. There is some sale or offer going on every other day on the online shopping platforms. We have piled up our closets with skin care, hair care products, slippers, clothes, bags, home essentials etc.. Im also guilty of piling my closet up. So here are the clothing lessons I learnt:  1. Don't buy a new skin care or hair care product unless the previous one is over. 2. Invest in quality over quantity. Im not that kind of person who looks into brands while I purchase stuff. If something feels...
